Women’s Day

womens day

I think this one is much more in my style and somehow I like this story (maybe because it’s about me 😛 ). I know that Women’s Day was on 8th March, I really wanted to upload it earlier, but the pope election seemed to be more important.
The Women’s Day in Poland is celebrated a little like the Mother’s Day and the Valentine’s Day mixed together. Most of us don’t remember that originally it was held because of the feminists and their fight for women’s rights, so that day was established to thank and respect women.
Nowadays, Polish men are ‘complaining’ that they want similar day for them. Actually, there is the Boy’s Day on 10th September, but it’s mostly celebrated by teenagers and to tell the truth it’s not so popular as the Women’s Day. You know, if you forget about your boyfriend, he eventually forgive you, but if you forget about your girlfriend she will kill you 😉 What is more, adult males don’t celebrate it, because they don’t consider themselves as boys…
The Men’s Day was established in Trinidad and Tobago (Middle America) mainly to give some gender balance and highlight positive role of males in our society. However, there is no tradition of celebrating this day in Poland, but some media are trying to make it celebrated, so the date of 10th March was offered. The date is not accidentally chosen, because the Polish Catholic Church celebrates the memory of the 40 Holy Martyrs from Sebasty on that day! — remember, if it’s Poland and you don’t know what the reason of something is, it always has something to do with the Church 😀
I don’t think the Men’s Day would be so popular as the Women’s Day is. Of course, men should be respected, because the society owes to them a lot, our world wouldn’t be the same without them, but it hasn’t such strong origin and males had their rights from the very beginning (in mooost countries) so there’s nothing new, nothing to commemorate. Oh sorry, I forgot! There is! – the 40 Holy Martyrs from Sebasty! I feel really sorry for the Polish men >:]

New pope is chosen

In the beginning I should say that this kind of joke is not my style at all (I mean I like rude, even black humour, but I seldom interfere in politics and religion – I’m just not interested in it). I don’t care about new pope, nor about homosexuals, but when I had opened a morning newspaper the day after the pope’s election the big words ‘HE LIKES FOOTBALL!!’ hit me straight in the eye.
‘So what?’ – I thought – ‘Is it the most important information about him?’ and then I had to put glasses on my nose to read more, because other text was so small. T_T <– I tried to imitate that impression in this comic, but not to make it illegible.
Actually, many good things were written about him (if I did care a bit, I’d even like him for some points, but I do not care…) and he seems to be a rather sensible man. However, that one point about homosexuals was really standing out (though the font was small T_T). Not because he is against them (if he wasn’t it would be something new in the Catholic Church and it WOULD be really standing out! ), but ‘Satan’s devilish piece of work’ sounds like words taken straight from the Middle Ages and is not sensible at all. Ok, there are people who are against homosexuals as him, but believing they are ‘devilish seed’ is just more than childish nowadays. Somehow we have made a step forward (witches are not being burned at the stake anymore! yaay!) , but some opinions are pemanent for ages. It made me laugh and I thought that regardless Jesus himself was a gay or not (I don’t care about that), as he was teaching us to love everybody as sisters and brothers no matter who they are, why wouldn’t he love gays the same way?

Special rights

I don’t know if translation is correct, but I think this comic needs an extra explanation.
An androgyne is a person, who has got a combination of both sexes, or a lack of both. Not always has something in common with hermaphroditism. It can be even a person who does not think about herself/himself as a man, nor a woman, sometimes it’s a person who doesn’t care if looks like a girl or a boy, because every option is ok for her/him. I don’t know much about them, but I’ve heard recently they are very popular, especially in the world of fashion.
What is more, for long before it was heard about the androgynes, there’ve been many subcultures, which were ‘fighting’ with others. Today we have metals (heavy-metal fans), emos (who tend to be sad and cut themselves with the razor blades) and etc… In Poland there is one, very troublesome subculture, called ‘dresy’ (literally ‘track-suits’), but they are a little similar to English ‘chavs’. They use bad words, devastate a public property and seem to be not very intelligent. They also tend to hate the police and slogans such as ‘F*** the police’ or ‘D**k in the police’s a**’ are characteristic for them.
Ok, why toilets? In my country weird things often happen, you know ^^ Once, there were only feminists fighting for their rights, but now everybody does. Sometimes it is really reasonable, but sometimes people ask for stupid things just to feel special. It was true that some androgynes in Poland wanted to have the separate public toilets, because they don’t feel woman, nor man. I just thought it’s funny and decided to create a comic, where everybody wants a separate toilet only for people similar to them. If it really happened, there’d be sooo many toilets, that most of people wouldn’t know where to go 😛
